Tonight

June 29, 2010

I touched a star tonight—
its brilliance spread through me,
electrifying my dreams,
and burst forth into a thousand shooting stars.

I smelled the ocean tonight—
cool, salty wind pushing back my hair.
The reflection of fading memories
drifting out to sea.

I heard your voice tonight—
rising from the smoke of a dying flame
desperate to weave a way back to the wick
and rekindle the heat.

I saw your face tonight—
a despondent expression
dancing in the shadowed branches
swaying across my wall.

I tasted Death tonight—
biting into the sugar
that sweetens my soul
with numbing sadness.
